A PRES (Pôle de Recherche et de l’Enseignement Supérieur) created in March 2007 as one of the ‘first wave’ of such special interest areas officially designated by the government.

An ‘Établissment Public de Coopération Scientifique’ (EPCS - Public Scientific Cooperation Institution) which links together all those working in Brittany’s 23 research establishments

A regional area with an international mission

The UEB intends to consolidate the position of Brittany, described as a “successful regional education authority area”, as a “region of knowledge” within European cooperation in research and higher education.
